Updating relations data at download takes a long time

Recently we upgraded the 800xA system from one of our clients to version 6.1. But now during a download it can take a very long time before 'updating relations data' is finished. This can take more than half an hour. For now, we unchecked the 'Rebuild Relations Data when downloading' checkbox to save us a lot of time. But what does it do? The help says: When this option is checked, relations between process objects (e.g. Diagram, Control Module, Function Block) and its related devices (I/O) HW object(s) are built when Control Builder making a download to controller. Which relations are these? And is it recommended to check this option? And why can this take a long time at a download?
