Answer question
800xA History Configuration Utility or Other Tools - New System already has issues
Our Site has a new 800xA V6.1 system including a pair of DCNs and one 800xA Historian. We make changes on the Development system and import to the Production system.
The new system already has duplicate tags on the DCNs and the 800xA Historian and tags that do not have a Process Path (see attached files). The 800xA Historian feeds data to a permanent repository system for permanent storage. Importing new changes (changes that do NOT include 800xA tag changes), at time results in an _x (where x is 1, 2, etc.) being appended to an existing tag and creates duplicates. Using the tags with the appended _x is not acceptable as it creates huge overheads in reassigning the permanent repository system.
In attempt to clean up the DCNs and Historian, ABB deleted all the tags by deleting the Root under the Equipment Model in Vtrin on both DCNs and the 800xA Historian. When the tags were created again, some had the _x.
In this example shown in the screen shots: DCN1 and the 800xA Historian have tags with and without _1. DCN2 screen shot does not have any _1 tags. The 800xA History Configuration Utility was used and shows some tags Marked for Deletion. The tags Marked for Deletion are the ones without the _1. This seems odd as DCN2 contains tags without the _1. Attempts have been made to delete tags from Vtrin directly by right clicking on the Variable (either from the Variables list or the Variable that is displayed after right clicking on the Equipment Model and Send to Variables is selected). Only one time were the tags able to be deleted, in all other cases an error is displayed indicating it is not connected to an object or something like that (not near the system right so cannot get exact verbiage - can provide if needed).
Tags have been renamed in Vtrin - the _x removed - and this appears to have worked until a duplicate tag is encountered. For duplicate tags, at times _x has been replaced with _junk so that the correct tag can be renamed without the _1. But then tags are left in the system, that cannot be deleted.
We must remove the _x tags and then prevent them from re-occurring when changes are imported/deployed to the Production system.
Please advise:
Is renaming tags in Vtrin acceptable when a duplicate tag does not exist?
How can tags be deleted from Vtrin - what is causing the error that no object exists?
Can the 800xA History Configuration Utility be used? Are there instructions for this Utility. I assume the Sync Services should be disabled when using this tool.
Can the FixExternalName or FixItemID applications be used? Are there instructions for these applications?
How do we prevent the _x tags from happening. We cannot continue down this road.
Thank you for your help. We want to keep the new system cleaned up!
