HOW TO AVOID THE PROBLEM
If a system shows a long response time due to the use of the APP command there is no simple way to avoid the problem. Rearrangement of the PC programs in order to make the APP-configured scan time more close to the default time is a suggestment to achieve shorter times.
The size of the symbol table can be increased/decreased with the command MSTABS.
In order to shorten the response times an improvement has been made both to the MasterAid 215/220 and to the MasterPiece 200/1. Software must be changed in both the target system and the aid to make any significant improvement. A change only in the MasterAid 215/220 will make the times just a few per cent shorter.
It is very difficult to give a specific figure of the how much shorter response times that can be achieved with the new software. Measurements indicates figures between 1.5 and up to 10 times depending of MasterAid commands and the situation when the command is used.
It can specially be mentioned that the second (and following) entry to the same PC element (for the IS and C commands) goes much faster than the first.

In release MasterPiece 200/1*3.0 the possibility to configure the scan cycle times was introduced. The cycle times can now be better adapted to the process demands and the CPU load. Configuration of the scan cycle times is done with the APP command on MasterAid 215/220.
However, in certain systems a problem has appeared when longer cycle times than default are used and when the on-line changing possibilities from a MasterAid also are used. The response time for an on-line command from MasterAid 215/220 will be longer and in some systems the waiting time can be unacceptably long. Influenced on-line commands are , IS, C and DS.
Even in systems where the APP command not is used can suffer from long response times when the above mentioned commands are used.
It is very difficult to give specific figures for the increased response time due to the fact that many parameters influence the response time in a non-linear way.
The underlying cause is:

In general the main causes to the increase of response time are:
1. The scan cycle times has been increased with the APP command.
2. The greater factor between the default scan time in interpretor A and the new scan times the greater increase of the response time.
3. Heavy CPU load in the MasterPiece 200/1 will increase the response time.
4. PC programs with a high amount of structure elements will increase the response time.
5. If a big symbol table (PCMASS) in MasterAid 215/220 is used, the response time will be increased.
The software used in MasterPiece 200/1 and the MasterAid 215/220 have been carefully examined to find possibilities to shorten the response time resulting in some improvements.
But the problem cannot be entirely removed.
When designing a system where the APP command is used you must be aware of the risk of getting an increased response time when using a MasterAid 215/220 for on-line changes.
NB! Even if the response time is unacceptably long the performance of the MasterPiece 200/1 towards the process is quite normal on condition that the CPU is not overloaded.
