Answer question
HP-UX Syscores during startup/shutdown of OS1.7/1 stations
Problem:Solution
- HP-UX Syscores during startup/shutdown of OS1.7/1 stations
On multiple occassions during the startup/shutdown of Advant stations @ OS1.7/1 and associated combination stations, we have seen HP-UX dump core (syscore). The problem doesn't appear to be related to the new PCI RTAB as some machines have had them, others had the older model EISA RTABs. Most of the time, the stations dump core and then reboot within one or two boot sequence cycles. On one occassion, the station dumped multiple cores and filled up the disk. That station had to be reloaded as the one LVMs had become full. Additionally, there have been numerous occassions where the advaCommand Startup GUI had different colors/fonts than would be expected, after such syscores. To cure that problem do the following. From the directory $OS_CONFIG/app-defaults/ ftp the file StartupInterface from a machine where the startup GUI appears normal. The station will need to be rebooted once the file has been copied correctly.
