change system name
Voted best answer
I tried it on my test 6.0 system I changed the name aspect in the admin structure--> administrative objects --> domains --> <system name> and I used the configuration console after a reboot to add a new funtion and it still worked. The xml configuration aspects from the configuration console which are contained where correctly changed and contained the new function. So the basic test I did worked.
But you might want to ask the question through ABB supportline as some of these things are a sensitive in 6.0
I don't know the answer to that question, so I advise against renaming after system creation. Names can be changed during the restore process, so that would probably be the official answer. Backup, restore & rename.
Some Core Functional Areas (CFAs) have traditionally used the system name to e.g. build paths to database files, e.g. Engineering Studio up to version 5.0 could stop working after a rename since the EBInstance (MS SQL Desktop Engine) was using the system name when locating its database files.
I would be (positively!) surprised if a fully fledged 800xA system would accept a name change without any issues, sooner or later.
