Primary Aspect Server Configuration Issue
Hi,
Existing Configuration:
1. Redudant Domain Server.
2. 2 Out of 3 Aspect Server
3. 3 Pairs of Redudant Connectivity server.
4. 12 Operator Clients
Issue:
Failure of One of the Redudant server (Other than Primary server). I'm able to operate the plant, means in Operator mode, I'm able to give start, stop, change setpoints.
However, Failure of Primary Aspect Server(Dongle Server), I'm unable to operate the Plant, howerver, I'm able to monitor the Process, Means, the operator is able to monitor the process, but, unable to start, stop, change setpoints.
I have checked with 800xaservice account also, but, problem continuous.
I doubt this could be something related to Affinity / Security setting ,but, how to check.

Hi Jiya,
When u have 2OO3 configuration and if 2 servers are down then your system will go to read only mode. Hope the same happening in your system.
To bring your system out of read only mode, you have to create new session on the running active directory service.

Hello,
With the remaining 2 aspect servers,You should able to opearte the plant but only license pop-up messages can be triggered by the system.
Please check the service status of the "Aspect Directory service" which gives the hint.
If there are not enough Aspect Directory servers running (that is only one in a 2 out
of 3 redundancy network) the Aspect Directory will enter read-only mode.
You can check the affinity under Admin structure->Inventory Objects->Affinity
2oo3 aspect directory redundancy means, that as long as at least two aspect servers have contact with each other, you are able to read and write to the aspect directory, and of course control the plant.
You say you cannot "operate" the plant of the primary aspect server fails ?
If you cannot operate the plant when the primary aspect server fails, then your entire plant is relying on a single point of failure.
This is nothing to do with "Read Only" mode ( Read only mode is for engineering not operating the plant) and sounds like a very serious problem. What you describe simply should not happen. You should be able to operate the plant even with only 1 Aspect Server and it should not matter if it is the primary or not.
It is very hard to say what is causing your problem.
Firstly, you need to get an urgent case logged with ABB support line.
Troubleshooting this problem on a live operating plant is IMHO too dangerous and should not be done. If you cannot shut the plant, then you should seriously consider using a VMWare virtual environment to clone all of the servers in your system and test if you can replicate the problem there.
