We done a SHC in a plant (5.1) and one of the things that came up was "Latent Binding" in several displays.
All displays are converted from OS500 and now PG2
I cant see anything wrong in these diplays.
How can these problem appear?
How does it affect the diaplays?
regards / anders
Never heard of "latent binding" - I assume you mean "late binding"?
During a System Health Check one may select to dissect parts of the process graphics, e.g. if problems or poor performance have been reported.
Due to its nature, late binding can not benefit from any subscription caching, furthermore expression parsing, syntax checks, etc that normally are done by the graphics editor during "approve" for regular graphics have to be postponed to runtime (display callup) for subscriptions using late binding.
The drop in performance depends on the construction of late binding and how many objects & properties that have to be iterated at display callup before a match is made.
Typically late bound properties are 50% slower than its counterpart called "early bound", but in some cases it can take several seconds or more to execute a late binding.
Hence, only use late binding where it is absolutely necessary, and only for a few subscriptions per graphic display.
