HGS (Harmony Gateway System), GPI and BRC410
I had finished upgrade MFP to BRC410, but any problem in several PCU due to MFP connect to PLC thirdparty using GPI v3. My question is:
- BRC410 can running with GPI v 3, or should be upgrade so that compatible with BRC410
- can GPI replace with HGS, and how procedure to create connection to PLC thirdparty using HGS so that can operate as well as before
HGS with Ethernet Modbus TCP will give you much higher performance, and easier life for long term maintenance/expasion. HGS does not support serial Modbus RTU. So either your PLC has Modbus TCP capability, or use RTU to TCP converter available on open market. Some small re-engineering is required, but nothing complex or major. Due to higher performance of both BRC and TCP, it's possible to have one BRC driving multiple PLCs to be cost-effective.
If you indeed prefer to keep serial connection, you can use GPI. I believe you will need to upgrade to v4.0 to support BRC410.
GPI v3 is a serial communications interface that is specifically linked to MFP modules. It cannot be directly used with BRC410. There is a version of GPI software that is compatible with BRC410 that is available from Wayne Krysko in Burlington, ON Canada. Wayne is a sbject matter expert on both GPI and the Harmony Gateway Software or HGS. He can help you decide which solftware ultimately is best for your customer.
