Can I upgrade firmware for AC500-eCo without the SD Card Slot? I try to used the com cable also cannot. Please advice.
According to the help files, you can use the "Multi Online Change Tool" to download firmware as well as application software to the PLC.
See section 7 of the on-line help files of Control Builder Plus for details
If you are able to connect to the PLC using this tool, then you should be able to upgrade the firmware. The help file seems to indicate that you need an ethernet port, but I think perhaps you can also use the serial port. I think it is worth trying.
I do not really understand why the SD card reader is considered "optional". It really does make upgrading firmware very much easier - and most importantly, it is the best place to store your application software source files. Otherwise, the chances are very high that they will get lost over the next few years. I strongly recommend that you get one.
There are these ways to do it.
Only the SD card is recommended by ABB!!! There is a risk of damaging the cpu and ruining it using No 2 and No 3 if the communication is disturbed.
1. By SD card. You have to invest in a MC503. We usually recommend any that buys the eco to also buy the card reader. It does not have to stay inside the plc so you can do the firmware update and take it with you.
2. You can do it by FTP if you have a ethernet PMxxx-ETH.
3. You can do it by the codesys command. Online-->Write file to PLC. This work with any protocol but I recommend setting the baud rate a little higher than standard if you do it serielly.
