System 800xA is not tested with hot drive image backups.
Most backups will probably become OK and useful; but I know of scenarios when hot backups have proved to not be possible to start up from.
We have also seen problems if the backup agent consumes too much resources (CPU, IO, etc) from the computer it is backing up.
For full support; do not run hot drive image backups on a running System 800xA system.
If you can handle the lack of full support; you may decide to go forward with some testing & use of hot backups; but check resource situation to be able to abort if the increased IO, etc. causes trouble and please be aware that sometimes "hot" backups may not be possible to start up System 800xA from.
We have used acronis hot backups pretty extensively. The only issue we have encountered is that services might restart when the server is snapshotted at the start of the backup. For this reason NEVER backup 2 servers at the same time. Note that all hot backups of a vmware server must snapshot the disk, not just acronis.
To restore an 800xA system the one node that you absolutely MUST backup is the primary aspect server. Everything else can be rebuilt - however this can be slow and time consuming so I would recommend that you backup the AS as often as required to keep all your engineering changes ( possibly daily in an active project but usually weekly will be enough) and everything else less often. Note that there is indeed a difference between the primary and secondary aspect servers that will affect how aspect changes are propagated whenever a secondary aspect server starts up and syncronises with the primary.
Restoring backups older than 90 days in a domain can be a problem because of a domain feature called the tombstone timer so try to make backups every 30 days or so.
Your backup requirements will vary from site to site, so these suggestions should be adjusted for your own requirements. But one thing is absolutely sure - you WILL loose a disk array one day.
There is no problem at all to take Acronis backup online, provided you have redundant server system. Only precheck that we should do it prior to start is to test the server redunadancy once and system health to identify any recidual problem with system. Once those pre-checks done, no issue at all for Acronis image.
As an example, we had done online system upgrade for 800xA system and during that time we had done this activity almost at all the places.
