[Vistualization] System 800xA in VMware 6
Voted best answer
I'm currently using v6 of VMWare with 800xA v5.1 Base. I've attached the link to the question that I asked a few weeks ago about how to implement a P2V. Make sure that the hadware is in VMWare approved compatibility listings for the hardware. I would also recommend some type of backup disk or image so you're able to move back easily to v5 in case there is an issue with v6. I've spoken with engineers who are familiar with VMWare and they say the newer versions are backwards compatible.
"The model of servers that we purchase are not considered to be "listed" by ABB, however, we are following requirements as stated on page 22 of the virtualization document for v5.1.
1. The hardware chipset must still be Intel based.
2. The hardware must be in VMware's approved compatibility listings."

-No, not yet, but its coming (sometime)
AFAIK, some device configurations to allow PC asset monitoring to get data for the Base Server hardware are missing, so you may miss some data from the VMWare hardware level. This really only applies if you are actually using PC Network Monitoring and care about getting that data.
Support for VMware version 6 on 800xA version 6.0.x is promised "soon". This may or may not be backwards compatible for 800xA version 5.1
However, customers that I work with have mostly decided to stick with version 5.5. There isnt really anything added in VMware version 6.x that is a "must have" and the advantage is that you are using a fully supported and tested version of VMware.
