We are using one ABB softstarter to start the motor of blower(centrifugal fan) by ABB Handbook recommended setting.
every time we start the motor it draws four time the nominal current(530A) through softstarter, but after automatic bypassing of the softstarter, the current returns to nominal value.
By the other hand we have used the softstarter to alleviate the inrush current problem but it aggravate the conditions by heightening the startup current to 2000A.
How can i fixed this problem?
Motor : 530A, 315Kw, 2986/min
Well the current of the motor is a reflection of the torque needed to move the load, even if you used a VSD the starting current will be the same.
What you can do is to shorten de starting time, this will make the load to be stressed more but the time in wich you have 2000A will be shorter.
Another thing to try is to increase the starting current, the load may need more torque to beat static resistance.
Hope i could help. Good luck.
