This morning I received a mail that said that my answer had been selected as the best answer to the question "Need help to identify ABB Master 800xA system".
That is always nice, but when I view the question, I see that my answer is not the best answer. How does this work?
First of all congratulation for best answer, cheers :)
Following is the criteria for selection of best answer
1. Question owner gives vote to an answer, question get close status and answer get selected as best answer.
2. The answer gets maximum votes (greater or equal to 3 votes), that answer gets selected as best answer.
Criterea-2 has priority over criterea-1.
Above two criteria’s managed automatically by system, in-case any answer didn't get any vote then admin have privilege to vote as best answer and close the question.
In your case it seems your answer got 1 vote and another user answer got a 2 vote.
Then question owner voted to your answer first, your answer gets 2 votes as well as selected as best answer (by criterea-1).
But then seems question owner or someone else voted to other users answer and that answer gets total 3 votes (i.e 3vote is maximum number and by criteria 2) that answer get selected as best answer.
Also sometime it happens some answers get best answer even though there are other good answers but it's all community driven and perspectives are different in those cases for best answer.
Keep answering best answers and participating on AKS.
