Fasceplate won't open
Hello,
We are running 800xA, 5.1 FP4.
We had a process event that resulted in a flood of alarms to our control room. While one of our operators was acknowledging alarms and starting up equipment, our other operator found that he was unable to open any faceplates on his client. The objects would highlight and we were able to right click to see that object's aspect menu, but we couldn't open it's faceplate. All of the data was updating. The workplace was not locked up. (No red border)
When the dust had settled, we restarted the workplace & everything was OK.
I'm just trying to understand what could cause this.
Did we overwhelm the Aspect Server?
Thanks,
Tim

Hard to tell with available info.
I recommend filing a support case with your regional ABB center.
Check [Workplace Structure]Web System Workplace:System Event and Operator Message Lists for events in the same timeframe as the problem.
There are also (possibly) logs to look into at C:\ProgramData\ABB\Process Portal A\Log
Check in client as well as aspect server.

Hi Tim,
Did this happen on all workplace clients/servers or only on 1? If you only have 1 client workstation, try running a workplace on the aspect server and see if the same thing happens. I think this method would help to narrow it down to either a server or client if this happens again. I've seen a similar thing on our system (v5.1 base) and just re-started the workplace. Other workplaces located on another aspect server was able to open the faceplate. That led me to believe that it had something to do with that particular workplace. This was during a line startup so I didn't have time to look into it more.

I have observed very similar behavior of a random client while all other clients are unaffected. I am running 5.1 32 bit. A Workplace restart always gets things working. Just like in your case, all other functions on the client seem to work. It is a rare event but I too would be interested in an explanation and a fix (other than a response to upgrade, unless accompanied by a explanation).
