We installed Smart Client 2.2 in 2015 without any significant problems.
However subsequently trying to connect from a computer that had its Windows 7 operating system reloaded I have picked up problems.
When trying to connect via Internet Explorer or Google Chrome I get the error message - 'Application cannot be started. Contact the application vendor'.
At other times I get the message 'Cannot download the application. The application is missing required files. Contact application vendor for assitance'
I have attached the Windows error log.
The Smart Client server is healthy, and the system can still be accessed by other users without problem.
Has anyone experienced similar problems?
I am assuming that you have Smart Client 2.2 Rev C RU1 installed, as it is the latest version available at this time. There is soon to be posted a new update, SC 2.2 Rev C RU2.
In reviewing the documentation, there is no reference to Google Chrome being a certified interface for Smart Client. Although you may have it working, it is not supported by product development, ie., it is not tested.
Two thing that I see as possible issues. First, I would check the settings in Google Chrome on other PC's to see if they match the settings on this newly installed PC. Second, I would check the User Configuration Tool on the Smart Client Server to ensure that the user name for that newly installed Windows 7 is the same as it was with the previous user.
