V lan (virtual Lan) 800XA
Someone has one positive experience instaling 800XA software using v-lan (virtual lan)?
ABB recommend that primary and secondary network paths (if used) should *never* share any common hardware (incl VLAN).
Running multiple primary paths (with individual VLAN IDs) on same network and secondary paths on *another* network (also using individual VLAN IDs) is acceptable.
Control networks are often more critical than other networks - hence, avoid running a control network on a common link (using VLAN separation) where storms and floods are expected (eg when running Spanning Tree or any other media redundancy protocol unable of effectively preventing sustained flooding).
A network ring structure may look good on the drawing board but is often far more complex to configure properly. I've witnessed many "mishaps" with rings where severe flooding have caused controllers to crash or shutdown.
Two physically isolated flat networks requires twice the hardware, but is far more simple to configure. If one net fail, there is another ready to take over.
