Have you studied the User's Guide?
Unless you have access to the printed version or the Advant OCS Documentation CDROM, please login to ABB Library/SolutionsBank and download the History User's Guide:

In short, IMS Menu -> AdvaInform -> History Configuration -> Composite Log
To add an additional log, I prefer to open an existing log (with appropriate settings) and perform "Save as..." and then enter a new data source. Then "Save", finally "Activate". A new empty log will be created for this data source.
Data Source can be TTD or OBJECTNAME,PROPERTY. The latter support more or less all object types and properties, but comes with higher overhead (=less performance) than if the Advant controller is configured with a TTD log for the object/property of interest. For OBJECTNAME,PROPERTY logs we do recommend using 1, 3 or 9 seconds cyclic update rate and only log properties for which have support for cyclic subscription (e.g. AI,VALUE but not AI,RANGE_MIN - a detailed list is found in Appendix E of this more recent user's guide of Advant Master for 800xA, 3BSE030340-510).
the IMS uses SQL Connect, and to get objects in the "list" you have to manually ask for the name.
Eg at sqlplus prompt write: select * from numlogval where name = '02BAA20CE901';
and you get at least one result row, will result that your name is displayed in the "list" in the future...
Ronny is correct, if your aim is to populate the SQL tables with signals, e.g. with a new AI signal you just have to query for it once, either from the form, SQL CLI or via the gtXXX command line tools.
All queried object will then remain in the so called "Location Tables" of SQL Connect (AI, DI, etc).
