Freelance HW config, FDT or GSD for configuring S800 IO? (Pros and cons)
Voted best answer
Hello Magnus,
At the end result is same using gsd or FDT/DTM, only difference is way to configure and use. In case of GSD you need to configure each bit's and byte from scratch for that you need have memory map information. Whereas using via FDT/DTM you get pre-configured gui window of S800 I/O or drive and as user you just need to make a few selection for using hardware.
Also note that for using FDT/DTM user need license whereas via gsd license not needed. If you have access to partner portal there is good webinar recording and presentation on this topic
Hope that helps...

I would strong suggest NOT to use FDT/DTM in Freelance. FDT/DTM tends to be unstable and makes a shitload of trouble on every update.
DTM's from ABB are maybe OK because they are developed and tested with Freelance, but everything else are a no-go.
