Regarding: Control Systems Application and Knowledge Store, Facing problem while upgrading xA from V 5.0 to V 5.1
Regarding "Control Systems Application and Knowledge Store" ->
"Facing problem while upgrading xA from V 5.0 to V 5.1":
As suggested by Arihant, will it be possible to copy some files (*.cro, *.cdo and possibly more files) from a new upgraded SV5.1 system to the (old) SV5.0 system in order to be able to view / control from both systems after the download from the upgraded SV5.1 system ?
All in all, will it be possible to run both systems (5.1 and 5.0) in parallel ?
(of course for a short period of time)
Flemming Bertelsen is asking the same kind of question.
I am looking for to receive your comments and advices.
Really, this question is to be answered by someone from the Control IT support team.
Personally, I don't think the coexistence stretches "backwards".
One thing is that the new 5.1 can "reuse" what 5.0 put in the controller because it has been taught to, but the other way around, for the old 5.0 to "understand" what a new version has downloaded is highly questionable.
5.1 may contain stuff, hardware, libraries, configurations, etc. that was not available in 5.0.
Add to it that 5.1 FP4 comes with a new VXworks (low level) firmware for the controller that even more stresses that an old OPC server might have issues talking with it.
Another comparison, a new version of MS Word can open/edit old versions of .DOC files, but not the other way around (do not mention the compatibility kit you can install to Office 2003 to make it able to open more recent Office documents).
