Can anyone explain what is considered a tag in 800xA and what is a tag license.
Below is the definition for which I need an answer.
"An Aspect object that has one or more Faceplate Aspect attached is called Tag and is licensed.
For PLC connect signals, tag count is - (no of signals /4)
Rule of Thumb– No. of Hw signals / 1.5
Design objects without faceplates esp. for third party communication to save tag license cost"

An 800xA Object having atleast one faceplate is described as a TAG.
One Object having one faceplate is ONE tag.
One Object having multiple faceplates is still ONE tag.
One object having no faceplates is ZERO tags
You can find the number of tags in your system by "afwsysinfo" in cmd promt. Each Tag needs a licence.
So it is recomended to avoid faceplates if you dont need them to save tag licence cost.
Definition is good...
Only missing that the object with the faceplate is under the Control Structure.
So objects with Faceplate under control structure is considered a tag for every object.
Example PID can Have AI object, PID object and AO object. Each with their faceplate in the controlstructure. These count as 3 tags. If you do not need all these tags you can elminate the faceplatefrom the object in the controlstructure and so reduce needed amount of tags.
