Licensing of Audit Trail
Hello all,
Does Audit Trail in version 5.1 FP3 require separate license? I would like operator actions (start/stop of motors, changing of setpoints), engineer actions (forcing of signals, changing of forced values, configuring of measurement devices via HART DTM - there is license for HART Device Aspect Objects), user changing (operator/engineer etc.) to be logged.
Thanks.

If I remember correct - the audit options enabled by factory default does not require any special license. AuditEvent_OperatorAction is among these "free" audit options. Just enable the "audit master switch" and you should be able to track all modifications posted via OPC.
Other audit options, eg AuditEvent_AspectDirectory need a license.
The set of "free" audit options (factory default) should be possible to restore by importing the audit config aspect itself from a backup or one of the C:\...\Process Portal A\import\...\*.afw files (use ExportImport's Locate... function to find it by eg name)
Audit events are stored (as all other events, eg process related) by the Event Storage service, 10.000 per category but can be upped to 50.000). If desired, an IM OPC Message Log can be added (up to 12.000.000 can be stored by an IM).
Note: actions made by the 800xA Service account is excempted from audit (might be worth noticing when setting up access to external users).

Hello guys,
Thanks for your answers. I would like to know if actions to be logged (from my answer:
operator actions (start/stop of motors, changing of setpoints), engineer actions (forcing of signals, changing of forced values, configuring of measurement devices via HART DTM - there is license for HART Device Aspect Objects), user changing (operator/engineer etc.)) are included in this free audit options. Can you check in sime your internal database?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Radomir
thanks for info. Will be very thankful for your following answer.

Just an idea - there are two checkboxes in configuration when checkbox "Audit Trail active" is activated:"log generic audit events" and "log selected audit events classes". Could "log generic audit events" be free of charge audit trail? What is included in generic audit events?
As mentioned in the answers but somehow with some doubts, I will try to clarify.
800xA System (based on 800xA Core) comes with Audit Trail enabled and free of Charge for all Operator Actions.
For any additional logging of actions, like Engineer or Maintenance, etc. you must purchase the Audit Trail license.
If you enable Audit Trail functionalities (checkbox) that are not strictly Operator logging actions then the system will identify tha you are using audit trail for not only the operators and so will request a license.
It is not neccesary to enable the Audit trail for operations if not desired, but this would be the free of charge option.
As you wish to have the logs described above you will need to purchase the Audit Trail license option.
Regarding HART DTM (Hart Device objects license) these licenses are only neccesary if you plan to access the HART devices through the fieldbus builder. for every access of device you will need a Hart Device opbject type license.
Hi Boris,
thank for info. I did some test and defined that Audit Trail will log acknowlegment of alarm and setting/resetting <tag_name>.Forced only if I check all of three checkboxes in Audit Trail configuration - "Audit Trail active", "Log generic audit events", "Log selected audit event classes" - without changing of values of checkboxes in list below "Log selected audit event classes", just leaving them by default. Does this combination mean that free of charge Audit Trail functionality used?
Thanks.
