- SOLUTIONS
Different solutions with reference to the problems described:
1. At the workstation: Fix the USB cable with a cable strap to the handle or a ventilation hole. At the keyboard: Attach a self adhesive cable strap holder underneath the keyboard and fix the cable with a cable strap. Necessary parts included in the IH509 kit.
2.
a. Fix the mouse cable underneath the keyboard with self adhesive cable strap holder and cable strap. Necessary parts included in the IH509 kit.
b. Install a ferrite on the mouse cable at the keyboard. Necessary parts included in the IH509 kit.
c. The sensitivity to electric disturbances varies between different mices. Please use the HP USB mouse IH590 offered on ABB price lists.
3. The Master Operator keyboard authority key with painted handle included in the IH509 kit will increase ESD immunity level.
4. The internal PCI bus parameter pcidelay should be set to > = 10ms on the B180L workstation. On the B2000 workstation the parameter is set to 100ms (not possible to set lower).
See setting instructions below.
5. With a small external USB HUB the RTA board will get the right bit rate. A USB cable with a small one port USB HUB at one end is included in IH509 kit.
6. The " Hot swap " problem is solved by changing a script. This is described in another report.
Search for AdvaCommand for UNIX, Version 1.8 revision 4 - Slow cursor movement on the screen.
7. The problem with the mouse movement is solved by changing a script. This is described in another report.

Setting of the " pcidelay " parameter on workstations:
The " pcidelay " parameter is set with the boot console interface directly after startup of the workstation.
1. Turn off the power to your workstation for half a minute.
Note that the workstation automatically shuts down the operating system before it terminates the power. This may take a few seconds.
2. Turn the power back on.
3. Press and hold the < ESC > key as soon as this message appears:
Processor is starting Autoboot process. To discontinue, press any key within 10 seconds.
Processor is booting from first available device. To discontinue, press any key within 10 seconds.
4. Release the key as soon as the following message displays:
Boot terminated
The Main Menu of the boot console appears:

5. Access the service menu:
Main Menu: Enter command > SER < enter>
The Service Menu is presented.
6. Inspect the present PCI bus delay parameter setting:
Service Menu: Enter command > pcidelay < enter >
If the pcidelay parameter is set to 10 (ms) or more then no change has to be done.
7. To change the pcidelay parameter setting enter the following command:
Service Menu: Enter command > pcidelay 10 < enter> (B180L)
Service Menu: Enter command > pcidelay 100 < enter> (B2000)
8. After setting of the pcidelay parameter, power off and restart the workstation again to make the new value take affect.

"Advant Station 500 Series and USB keyboards, USB keyboard or mouse may stop working" resolves the following:
- Advant Station 500 Series and USB keyboards, USB keyboard or mouse may stop working
Different problems may occur depending on the electrical environment the keyboard is installed in:
1. The USB cables accidently get disconnected (slips out of connector). The reason is that the USB connectors do not have any good fixing mechanism.
2. Occasionally the USB mouse connected to the keyboard stops to work. Mice of different manufacture have different resistance against electrical disturbances.
3. The keyboard may stop working when operating the authority key (Master keyboard). The operator gets discharged, ESD, through the metallic key and the keyboard electronics, causing the keyboard to stop working.
4. The workstation may not find any USB device at startup of the workstation. The workstation internal PCI bus delay parameter pcidelay may be set to wrong value.
5. At power up the keyboard tells the RTA board USB port what bit rate it works with (12Mbit). The RTA board may not recognize the right bit rate.
6. " Hot swap " of USB bus, unplugging and replugging the USB cable to the RTA board may cause workstation to reboot.
7. The mouse may move in steps over the screen at movement.
