"OPC Server and AdvaSoft for Windows - Disturbance of Service data transfer at low AF 100 cyclic data load" resolves the following:
- OPC Server and AdvaSoft for Windows - Disturbance of Service data transfer at low AF 100 cyclic data load
In Advant Fieldbus 100 configurations with OPC servers, AdvaSoft for Windows (ASfW), Advant Controllers and/or S800 I/O stations the communication between OPC server and AC 70/S800 I/O Stations might be disturbed at low cyclic data load.
The disturbances occurs when a connect or download application command is performed in the software in the OPC server or ASfW, e.g. the ASfW/OPC server itself or FCB software, located in the ASfW/OPC PC.
The disturbances are shown to the user as error message "Communication init", "Communication time-out", "Reception aborted", "Buffer to small" and/or "No more resources in target".

The underlying cause is:
- AF 100 provides two communication protocols.
AF 100 provides two communication protocols.
One for communication of cyclic data (CDPs) used for transmission of DSP data. Up to 75% of the bus bandwidth can be used for cyclic data transmission.
The other protocol, Service Data Protocol, is used for event driven communication, this is used at transmission of e.g. events and configuration data. 25% of the bus bandwidth is reserved for the Service Data Protocol but at low cyclic data load up to 50% of the bus bandwidth can be used for service data transmission.
The reason for the error described above is that the AC 70, at low cyclic data load, can use up to 50% of the AF 100 bandwidth for sending service data messages to the OPC server PC. The OPC server software in turn does not have the possibility to process all the received data and an error message, see above, is given to the user. The solution is simple, the service data traffic is decreased by increasing load of cyclic data transfer.
This is performed by introducing a “dummy” DSP with 8 DATs, CYCLETIM = 2 ms and SOURCE = SEND in any station (one station only) on the bus.
