Make a simple test:
Press moderately on a springy part of the detail. The plastic is impaired if the detail isn´t springy but easily cracks.
If the plastic details seem to be brittle some samples can be sent for further investigation.

- S800 I/O Brittle Plastic Details
It has been reported, from a few installations containing light beige products, that the plastic details have become brittle. Mentioned installations have a combination of high ambient temperature and high humidity in common.
This Report is relevant only for the above mentioned light beige products produced 1996 to 1999.
- The light beige plastic details may become brittle after several years use in environments with high temperature and humidity.
If both temperature and humidity around the products have been high, for example continuously above 50 degrees C and 55% R.H. or 40 degrees C and 65% R.H., for 6 years or more, the light beige plastic material may be subject to brittleness.
From 1996, at the first release of the S800 I/O, up to about mid-year 1999 a light beige plastic material was used for the mechanics of the products. At the mid-year 1999 a light grey plastic material was introduced due to a new ABB Corporate Guideline that prescribed the light grey colour as standard for ABB products.
