You are not able to reload a B2600 Operator Station from factory-supplied media
- Workaround for the problem loading DVD media based Software.
If you are in a situation where a station reload (reloading the operating system and AdvaCommand software CD) is required, and the station only has a DVD drive, then there are two options. Either load the station by using the Ignite Server from another station, or use an external CD ROM drive to load the software. AdvaCommand v1.8/2 p1 will be delivered to all customers who received B2600 Advant Stations with AdvaCommand 1.8/1 or 1.8/2 delivered since November 2002 - those stations with DVD drives. New deliveries with AdvaCommand 1.8/2 p1 will not have this problem. OS 1.8/2p1 is targeted for the end of April.
- New software is shipped on DVD media
At the end of 2002, the Vasteras factory began shipping the B2600 Advant workstations with DVD drives in place of the previously supplied CD ROM drives. The CD ROM became obsolete and the only offering from HP included the DVD drive. The standard HPUX 10.20 software drivers included in the current versions of AdvaCommand software do not support DVD drives, and consequently the AdvaCommand/AdvaBuild software cannot be installed from the existing CD media via the DVD. For orders delivered since November, the factory loaded the software via server and also installed the required DVD patch. However if you reload the Advant Station with the AdvaCommand v1.8/1 software, the DVD patch will be overwritten, and the station will not run because the AdvaCommand 1.8/1 software does not include the necessary boot files and patches to enable the install/operation on a B2600 workstation with DVD. In order to support the DVD drives two patches are needed. One patch provides the boot files to enable the initial station loading, and the second DVD patch enables the operating system to recognize and use the DVD drives.
