Screen goes blank and the station hangs
Problem:Solution
- Set the PCIDelay value to 10 ms
The new class B180 of HP workstations are not booting with PCI RTABs. If an EISA RTAB is inserted, the station will boot properly. The symptom is that after power up, the normal HP boot messages appear briefly on the screen, then the screen goes blank and the station will hang at this point infinitly. To solve this problem, power the station down and at the boot phase, interrupt the boot with the escape key. Enter the SERvice mode by typing SER at the prompt. When in the SERvice mode, type PciDelay 10. This sets the PCIDelay value to 10 ms and will allow the station to boot.
The factory should be doing this when the stations are assembled, but there may be instances when machines do not have this value set.
