IMS station shut down abnormally (power failure, etc.)
- Shutting Down Oracle
There are times when an IMS station will shut down abnormally (power failure, etc.) and get stuck on the Console login prompt while coming back up.
Usually, this is caused by the Oracle database not being shutdown properly. When Oracle tries to come back up, it tries to do a crash recovery of a thread and is unable to do so. An ORA-1113 is reported in the file /products/log/oracle/alert_ims.log. The fix isto shut the Oracle database manually and restart the station.
To shut the Oracle database:
- login as root su - oracle sqldba connect internal hit F4 and then Instance -> Shut Down -> Immediate quit out of the window, get back to the root prompt and /etc/shutdown -r 0
- IMS gets stuck on the Console login prompt
