Unable to Remove Nodes from Node Groups After They Are Imported from a Different System
If node groups are imported to a system from a different system, and have nodes in them, the import will complete successfully. However, even if the nodes in the node groups on the destination system have the same names as those on the source system, the GUIDs of the node objects will be different. Therefore, they may appear as blank node objects in the node group:
It is not possible to remove these node references.
Additionally, it is not possible to delete the affinity group without the following error:Symptoms:
When affinity groups are exported and imported to a different system, even if the destination system has the same node names, this behavior can occur because the node objects that are members of the groups are likely referenced by GUID, not name. Thus, the affinity groups show up with blank nodes in them, and they cannot be deleted.
The solution is to add a "real" node to the affected affinity group from the node admin structure on the destination system. Then, when that "real" node is deleted, a blank one is mysteriously deleted with it. Continue in this manner until all "blank" nodes are removed from the affinity group.
Once there are no nodes left in the affinity group, the group object itself can be deleted.
It is recommended not to export/import node groups between aspect systems.
