License Popups and License Status Viewer Point To A Lack Of CLIENTS Features
You may periodically see popups coming from CLS saying there are invalid licenses. Upon looking at the License Status Viewer, you may see the following:
This can be confusing because there is no feature in the SLA file called CLIENTS.Symptoms:
The CLIENTS feature is calculated internally by the CLS system (you will not see the feature in an SLA file), and is a sum of the OPERATOR_WPL and REM_OPER_WPL features (unless you are using SV3, see below). Thus, if one or both of the workplace features is being exceeded, it may show up as a violation of the CLIENTS feature.
In PPA version SV3 CLIENTS = OPERATOR_WPL + REM_OPER_WPL + ENG_WPL.
In PPA version SV4 and SV5, CLIENTS = OPERATOR_WPL + REM_OPER_WPL.
Note that if you call up an Engineering or Plant Explorer workplace, it will request an Operator Workplace (OPERATOR_WPL) license feature if you do one or more of the following:
1. Call up a faceplate.
2. Call up a trend display.
3. Call up an alarm list.
The REM_OPER_WPL feature is requested when an operator workplace is opened (or one of the three above things is done from another workplace type) through a Remote Desktop Connection.
This is normal behavior of the CLS. You must either purchase a sufficient quantity of OPERATOR_WPL or REM_OPER_WPL features, or refrain from performing operations that would cause the feature violation.
