Aspect server services doesnt start
We have a workgroup network that restarted due to power failure.
After restart, the primary aspects services arent starting automatically. The system is down (Red notification icon) and task manager doesnt show afwADService.
I tried to start the system manually using configuration wizard but it says time out !!!
I tried to do a maintanance stop and restart the node but its the same.
Can anyone say what could be the problem?
If none of the regular AfwXXX processes start shortly after the AfwServiceManager.exe has appeared in the Task Manager it sounds like the \OperateITData\ServiceManager\SMData.dat file has become corrupt.
Try "Send to compressed (zipped) folder" on the SMData.dat file. If it compresses to less than 1kB it is damaged and must be recovered.
If you have any other 800xA server node (regardless type) running, the situation can be salvaged by renaming the SMData.dat file and restarting the ABB Service Manager Service in Windows -> Control Panel -> Services.
With no other servers running and no backup of SMData.dat to use the system is lost and need to be recovered from a System Backup.
The Installation Manual / Post Installation Manual do contain a cryptic recommendation to maintain a copy of this file - but the purpose is not revealed (here above I have done just that).
Contact your regional ABB support center for more help.
I too faced a similar problem with 800xA 5.0 SP2 RevE running on a virtual machine. Please perform the below mentioned steps to restart the system and its associated services,
1) Perform the procedure specified by Mr Stefan
2) If the the SMdata.DAT file is indeed corrupted, then one possible way to obtain a copy would be to restore any latest maintenance backup of the system on a freshly installed single engineering node. The SMdata.data file can be found at the location specified by Mr. Stefan
3)Manually stop and restart the AfwServicemanager service from Controlpanel/administrativetools/services
4)This should start all the associated services required to enable the 800xA system.Open Task manager and observe whether the requisite afw and adv services have been started. If all the services have been started, then the afwTrayicon should turn green.
5)If system does not start even after Step-4, then last option would be to use AfwSystemResurrect.exe tool to manually kickstart all services and repair lost links. It can be found at C:\Program Files\ABB Industrial IT\Operate IT\Process Portal A\bin
All the required .exe and .bin files are located in the path mentioned above
6)Before running the resurrect tool, kill all the services using afwkill.exe tool. Once all the services have been killed, run the resurrect tool. In the tool's browser window provide OperateITdata1 folder's path and then start resurrection
7)Once the resurrection is completed, acknowledge all succeeding prompts and then kill all services again
8) Once all services have been killed, restart the server via afwConfigurationwizard tool and the system should be up and running (afwtrayapp.exe can be manually started as well, in case the icon is not active in the windows icon tray)
Note:If in the future, if the system again fails to restart due to the host PC being restarted, then repeat the same procedure, or if possible try to have windows start all the services automatically.
