Archiving Batch Data using PDLMSGLog or PDL Auto Archive?
When archiving batch data is it necessary to archive both PDLMSGLog as a messagelog and using the PDL auto archive function or is it sufficient to use either one?
Is the difference that PDLMSGLog is "just" a big stack of events in chronological order and PDL auto archive is the same events ordered by batch ID?
When data is archived using the PDL auto archive is it the possible to view the restored data using the Batch history overview or a similar tool that also show the SFC information?

The purpose of the PDLMSGLOG is to save all A/E messages that occur containing the BatchID attribute, which are generated during the Batch process. The Archiving function, which for the IMMSGLOG is done via the Scheduling Structure>Job Description, for the PDLMSGLOG is done through the Aspect, Inform IT PDL Auto Archive, in the Node Administration>IM_Inform IT History Object...>Production Data Logs, Production Data Log Container. This is typically set up to an Archive Mode>OnBatchEnd, with a delay to allow for the completion of all events in the Batch Process, and a Delete Mode>After Archive, with a delay to allow for some maintaining of the data in the runtime PDLMSGLOG for Reporting if necessary. The Delete Mode will remove the data from the runtime PDLMSGLOG freeing up space for future Batches. The Restored data in a PDLMSGLOG is not published to the Batch History, however, it is available via DataDirect in Excel.
It is really up to you and what information you want. PDL history logs provide the batch information that is disseminated into table and view structures and are used for reporting. PDLMSGLOGS provides batch event messages this is all the batch information there is no dissemination of the information into a structure. There is also additional batch messages that might be good to have. I recommend archiving both. On top of that system message logs should also be archived. Having related system messages to batch time period might be useful to have.
The Batch History overview can be used to look at archived PFC information. There is information on this in the 800xA Batch Management Operations Guide. Review the section on PDL Extractor. The Extractor is used to extract PFC information from the Information Manager.
