Upgrade of AC800M controllers from 4.1 to 5.1, how to copy cold retain values
We are upgrading a system from 800xA version 4.1 to 5.1 FP4. We have been searching for the best alternative to copy cold retain values (transfer cold retain values) from 4.1 system to 5.1. Has anyone got good experience to share on this?

The best advice I can give you is FOLLOW THE MANUAL EXACTLY. Yes, you are right, loosing the cold retain values is a real risk when upgrading from 4.1 to 5.1
There is an FSD utility (FSD Tool ) that can be used to extract the cold retain fles to disk. After you go online/offline with control builder to save the cold retain values, run the FSD tool and extract these files.
BDM can be used to save important values like alarm limits, alarm settings, PID tuning values etc. Take some time to capture as much of this data as possible.
Allways have an image backup of the Aspect server at each stage of your upgrade in case you have to roll back, and make a plan of what to do if something goes wrong at any stage.
The retain, cold retain files are saved Aspect directory which are pulled from the OPC server either you can save it in manually or automatically via OPC server panel settings it will save cylically.
But on power failure most recent updates of cold retain values will be available
Goto online of each controller and save the cold retain values via CBM-tools-save cold retain values.
upgrading the CBM is only upgrades the project from minor to major and once committed to PPA cold retain values gets updated based on the saved aspect directory values.
I hope FSD tool can help to save the cold retain values other than in Aspect server.
