OPC connection for a controller with program on an external PC
We want to add an ABB controller AC 800 M , to 800xa , we have a few issues
the program of the controller ( Compact control builder ) is not on the main DCS control biuilder but on siperate PC , when i try to add to the OPC server it needs a file which was created during last download , but first i dont get this file , and second issue if i even got it , the remaing opc data will not work coz thier configuration file will be lost .
the firmware of the new controller is different but we cant change it becouse the programe written will not be able to download .
it is necessary to have the same firmware for all controllers in the DCS ?
There are several complications combining Compact Control Builder and 800xA, but the main one is that you cannot easily use the 800xA as the HMI for your AC800M that uses CCB. However, if you don't need an HMI ( or are prepared to build one from scratch without the AC800M aspects) then you can certainly use the controller.
You cannot combine OPC servers to connect to both the 800xA and the Compact AC800Ms.
- Install the Standalone OPC Server that comes with CCB
- Create a OPC DA Service group for the Standalone AC800M
- Connect the new service Group to the Compact AC800MC OPC DA Server that comes with the Compact Control Builder Installation.
- Upload the controller, just like you would with any third party PLC application using either PLC Connect or Third Party OPC Connections. BEWARE... This may take a very long time.
Otherwise, if you want the CCB Application to be an integrated part of the 800xA system then you could upgrade it to use 800xA's Control Builder
