The yellow filled indication would appear if ou have status in connected IO (BoolIO or RealIO) is 16#200000, this is a reserved status (It is not warning or error). I predict, it is kept reserved for simulated IOs.
Connect it to regular IO hardware (DI or DO), you should get the Force buttons visible for the faceplate.
There is a setting to limit the number of forces per application. By default this will be 'zero' and it considers only the hardware connected variable forces. I guess you may have it as 'zero', so as you are able to force the not connected variables but not the connected ones.
To change that settings, right click on SIL application to get Force property. Hope this solves your problem.
