How install DTM for Freelance system (Control Builder F)
How i know what DTM use?
I don´t know the devices to use for now but i want to have an idea.
Any additional information is appreciated

The whole DTM technology does not work well. Especially with Freelance CBF. If you can avoid using FDT/DTM, don't use it. I have seen so many different issues with differnet DTM's, i have replaced them all with GSD's (at least in CBF).
The DeviceType Manager is software which comes with bus connected field devices. The installed DTM software communicates with the hardware via profibus or HART or other fieldbus protocols.
All DTM's are standardized by Field Device Technology 'FDT'. The standardized DTM interface is used by Freelance as well. Thus Freelance could connect to all available DTM's on the market.
At DTM setup, the DTM software registers in certain FDT-predefined areas of windows. Every time when Freelance CBF is started, it scans windows for installed DTM's in that areas.
If your DTM is already installed, you get it offered in the CBF hardwaremanger when inserting new Profibus or HART device. Because standardized, Freelance loads the complete DTM software and binds
it into your CBF project. Next time you start CBF, the DTM is already there.
Freelance has no integrated 4..20mA interface to connect HART devices directly. Instead it requires a profibus device - ABB S800 or S900 - with HART Modules (S800 i.e. AI845).
The S800 communicates HART protocol to the HART device, puts the HART message into a Profibus message and sends to Freelance.
The Freelance controller unpacks the messages and thus talks HART.
This all works fine for many years now. But as Ordoban claims, if the DTM software fails the FDT rules, Freelance fails as well.
Thats why ABB has a own device integration center which validates DTM's and fielddevices together with ABB control systems, with Freelance.
The center offers a report of validated devices. Those will reliable work fine with Freelance.
You may also connect a HART device without installing a DTM. In that case you use the gsd file for the S800/S900 and the connect the HART. The HART commissioning is more complicated, as you
have to configure the HART commands to the CBF hardwaremanager manually. This is described in the Freelance manual.
Hope this helps you.
