RNRP node connection
I have a strange problem with my RNRP connections.
I have three nodes, 1 Aspect server where a system has been set up and deployed, 1 engineer client where i have run the NPT and 1 Operator client that have run the NPT.
From the RNRP network status tool in ASP i can see the own node and the OP
From the RNRP network status tool in ENG i can see the own node and the OP
From the RNRP network status tool in OP i can see the own node and the ASP and the ENG.
I have tried to boot the nodes, restarted the RNRP refreshed the host files, nothing seems to work.
The fact that the OP can see the ENG makes me think that all settings should be okay in ENG.
Pinging works between all nodes same with file sharing.
Can i manually add the ENG client in the host file for ASP or will that create problems?
Make sure IGMP is turned off in the switche(s); there is something called IGMP Aging that after some time may clean out old not refreshed IGMP multicast subscriptions. Maybe this can cause asymmetries where some multicasts comes through the network while others do not.
As a test (if possible) connect all nodes to an unmanaged switch or hub to prove the desired switch to be set incorrectly.
If ASP does not list ENG and/or ENG does not list ASP it means UDP multicast between them is broken in one or both directions. A single fault will take down the connection in both directions. Since both of them see OP, the firewall is OK (otherwise a hot lead why RNRP does not work) and the NIC profile has been determined to workgroup, domain, work or public (the unknown state typically makes the firewall block all traffic). NPT makes sure firewall exclusion is added for RNRP on all profiles.
If you want to learn more about RNRP, download and install Wireshark and study which nodes you see UDP port 2423 multicasts to 239.239.239.x from.
