hello i want to know the advantage and disadvantage between freelance ,symphony and 800xa abb dcs urgently
Answers
Quick and Dirty answer .....
- Freelance : Cheap and Cheerfull. Good for Small to Medium sized projects. The bigger the project the more engineering overhead you need to invest.
- Symphony: The Old Elsag Bailey controller line. If you don't already have Symphony then don't bother
- 800xA: All Singing, All Dancing Distributed Control System. Expensive, but pays for itself on large projects because it saves an incredible amount of engineering overhead. Its great for small projects too if you have the budget.
If you want a more serious answer, talk to your salesman and read the brochures.

We are migrating old system to 800xA since many years and it's a good system. We provide good training on it and this is the key if you choose 800xA. I agree that it depends on the size of the project. Many options, many way to do things wrong.
I'll try and be as neutral as possible.
ABB has various systems for control that have come from different backgrounds. However they are all Active (ie being supported, developed etc).

- Freelance. - small and compact. Pro- Easy to setup and use. Con - limited in project size say small to medium only
- Symphony (Bailey, Infi90) - full size (very large if needed) DCS is also Active and now has DIN rail CPU's and IO. Pro: Also easy to use and much simpler to code up. Con: not all modern connectivity available natively
- 800xA (Control and HMI) - med to large DCS/PLC hybrid. Pro: Similar in coding to PLC's with very high flexibility and connectivity. Con: complex
