Has anyone installed a ABB M4M Network Analyzer? My Profibus Communication keeps freezing.
I got the comms(Profibus) going to the ABB M4M 20 fairly quickly, but it seems that the communication keeps freezing every now and then and its really frustrating. The only way to get the communication going again is to power cycle the M4M. The M4M doesn't freeze its real time values keeps changing, and in the ABB DCS Hardware structure the system status is healthy. No warnings or errors. We have installed 6 M4M Network analyzers on their own Profibus network with no additional devices. They freeze up one by one not all at the same time.
ABB 800xA System
CPU - PM866
Communication Module - CI854 (Profibus)
Baudrate - 500K (Was initially on 1.5M)
Has anyone encountered a similar problem?

Hello Jean, me too facing the same issue with M4M 30 Profibus Meter with Siemens S7-400 PLC. Did you find any solution? If yes it would be highly appreciated if you can reply.

Hi, be sure to check that the PROFIBUS physics are ok and that the communication is running properly -- using a protocol analyser. When the communication freezes, you should be able to ascertain what exactly the device status is using the bus telegram logger function.

Hi Ram,
We basically sent the units back to ABB and the sent us new units. The new units looks to have had a firmware update. After we installed the new units they have been running without any issues for almost 2 months. I have no idea what ABB found on the old units we haven't received any feedback yet. We did not do any changes on the existing Profibus installation when we installed the new units.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards
Jean

Hello Jean,
Thank you very much for the update. It will help us a lot to deal with ABB. We have spent lot of time and man hours checking back our Profibus network , programming in DCS etc. multiple times to cross check if something wrong being done from our side.
Best Regards,
Ram Kishore
