Using control builder and 800xA version 5.1, I inserted 7 new ACS880 FPBA-01 units with PPO Type 5 in an existing Profibus network. 5 similar units where already there and in operation (in addition to 3 I/O stations with CI801 units). During download all 7 new units went into error as expected since they where not physically connected to the bus. Unexpectedly, 2 of the other FPBA-01 units went into fault and the controller lost communication with them (and the motors stopped). Communication was restored with powering the ACS880 off and back on. Note that the VFD's did not go into fault state, only the FPBA-01 cards it seem.
Anyone that has similar experience? Any parameters in the ACS880 or 800xA that could affect this behaviour and reduce the likelihood of it?
Fieldbus comms (in this case Profibus) are monitored by the drive. Check parameter group 50 (DDCS is group 60) for details and verify correct settings. Beware that a hardware configuration download, can possible delay comms to drives forcing them to act according to (narrow) monitoring setting. Control Builder normally issues a warning before download.
Make sure that you have reasonable drive configurations (roll-out, freeze, etc) depending on your application, to handle this situation.
(If a "true" communication error occurs, it is nice to have your drives handling this in a manageable way...)
