OPC UA Server to 800xA
Hi,
I saw a post where you mentioned that you manage to communicate an OPC Server to 800xA, can you explain how you did it? Did you used some sort of OPC Wrapper or straight from OPC Server to 800xA?
Thank you

The 800xA Base currently system lack OPC UA support. There is stuff in the works right now for a coming release on 6.1.+
In the present version of 800xA History, there is a UA server - but I cannot tell how you can make use of it.
Be careful when working with wrappers! OPC UA is not very mature in industrial automation and there are room for multiple different interpretations of how it should work.
If your external software need OPC UA and you use a DA to UA wrapper to gain access to the OPC DA 2.0 system of System 800xA, you still have to adhere to what the underlying OPC DA servers and PLCs are capable of. Just because the wrapper exposes UA, it does not mean it will work effectively with all underlying source servers.
I've seen plenty of systems that has gotten into trouble because the introduction of an OPC client application (which did not pay any respect at all to the underlying systems and capabilities).

ABB has a paper called "History OPC UA Server"
That explains more about what is supported in OPC-UA Server. For example that Certificate-based user authentication it not available, but application-instance certification is supported.
I have not found it on the Download Center - so I don't think it's an "official" manual
Ask you local ABB representative for a copy.
