ESXi 6.5 and 800xA 5.1
Hej Stefan. I am at a site using 800xA 5.1. I was asked to help them transfer the virtualized servers from an existing server to a new one. When on site I found out that the server was a HP Gen10 server, so the ESXi version used on the existing hosts (5.1 Update 1) could not be used on the DL380 Gen10 server. The customer provided ESXi 6.5.0 Update 1 version 650.U1.10.1.5 based on ESXi 6.5.0 Update 1 Vmkernel Release Build 6765664. I have built and transferred the server VMs (800xA Aspect server, AC800M Connect, DCI Connect and an Application Server plus a domain controller) with an Aspect Server to be added tomorrow. Things appear to work. However, I have seen post (see "related question" below) about possible issues with ESXi and 800xA with performance and disconnected data stores. Have there been any updates/tests since your comments there?

I believe the policy is that new releases are tested against their counterparts in Microsoft, VMware, etc. as far as possible.
There are exceptions, e.g.:
- 6.0.3.3 was not tested with Server 2019
- VMware 6.5 was delayed because of issues with LSI storage drivers found in e.g. Dell and Intel based chassis.
As 5.1 is no longer an active product and will likely not receive any updates or be part of any further testing (don't take my word on that though).
Your question: can 800xA v5.1 run on other versions than explicitly stated in the "Third Party Software" document?
The official answer: only the officially tested and approved versions will be listed in aforementioned documents.
On a side note, I personally believe any version of 800xA will run ony any VMware version having outspoken support for the Microsoft Windows operating system version in use by 800xA.
There may be smaller issues like PNSM and supervision of the VMware host - at some stage SNMP traps were introduced, only later feature packs of 5.1 got support for traps.
There has been versions of VMware ESX/ESXi where RNRP would clash with the virtual NIC driver; we've seen PSODs (ESX Purple Screen of Death) and instablility (problem with multicast support in vNIC driver). Those problems have often (always?) been due to faulty drivers in VMware and become resolved in later patches or versions of ESXi.
For a smooth ride with less surprises, stay on tested versions. Otherwise, put the drive selector in "D" and hit the accelerator! :-P (with Anti-Collission and Auto-Brake systems engaged).
