Profinet IO with ring topology
Hi, I need to make a ring with a PM573+CM579 and 4 CI501. I am using a Ubiquiti US8 switch to close the ring, but the communication goes down. Will this switch not be compatible? What protocol should the switch have?

Profinet IO is based on ethernet
And a simple ethernet ring will cause a broadcast storm, because of the ARP packets
Either use a simple "tree" topology or enable STP aka Spanning Tree Protocol in your switch.
But I think STP is not recommended by ABB and has some drawbacks you must understand.
The switch needs some time to detect the ring.
Also if the topology changes the switch has to learn again, this will need time.

Profinet is not a proprietary ABB Technology and there is a lot of very good information about it on the web ...

You need MRP. While Ubiquity hardware is generally excellent, they have less experience in industrial ethernet aplications like Profinet. You are better to look for a supplier who has specific recommended products for Profinet.
