How to assign new network address (Not IP address) for replacement ECCP Model no: 686B811U01 dual network card.
Recently, two Server PCs failed and we were able to rebuild replacements utilizing the original hard disks and ECCP this ECCP Model no: 686B811U01 cards.
All working correctly.
However, we purchased a spare this ECCP Model no: 686B811U01 card in case of failure in one of the Server PCs and it appears that the Conductor NT software has an Ethernet address which matches the hardware ID of the card and also a static IP address, in our case for server 2 it reads as follows...
Ethernet Address: 00:40:C3:01:4E:AA, IP Address: 126.96.36.199.
Fitting a replacement card does not work (no connection to the network) and the hardware ID of the new card is 00-40-C3-01-30-04 as reported by Windows XP.
The ECCP card is identified by Windows as ABB ECCP Dual Redundant PCI Ethernet card.
I would like to know how to change this hardware ID so I can replace the ECCP card should one fail in the future.
Thanks in advance!
You *might* be able to spoof the MAC address (google is your friend) but in many cases you cannot.
Be warned that spoofing a duplicate MAC address on an active network segment can cause chaos as you now have multiple computers sending and receiving messages on the same address. But since they have different IP addresses you wont get any diagnostic errors.
