Remote I/O Based on BRC-300 (BRC-RIO)
We have remote I/O configuration which is done with BRC300 controllers over H-Net, there are redundant controllers in local side panel and also in remote side. I want to download new configuration in the controllers, as per my understanding both side controller have same running configuration. Before doing this activity i need some clarifications.
1- While downloading new configuration in the local side controller, will it be automatically downloaded to remote side controller or do i need to initialize the remote side ?
2-If remote side controller initialization required, when to initialize it?
Thanks,
Abdul Ghaffar

Hi Abdul,
The remote BRCs acting as RIO processors do not need to be touched during an online change. The FC146 in the local BRCs will manage any configuration changes to the connected RIO IO module configuration. When set up as RIO processors, the remote BRCs are not really behaving as BRCs, executing only the function codes connected to the FC146 in the local BRC.
The remote BRC300s do not need to be initialised as a normal part of an online configuration. The only time the remote BRCs need to be initialised is probably after a firmware upgrade.
There is a good explanation of how the BRC RIO works and what happens during an online change in appendix D of your BRC manual (2VAA001821 for BRC300/BRC400).
Regards,
Alan
