MB300 Network media converter & Fiber optic cable type & length
we are upgrading the MB300 thick coaxial cable network with Ethernet switch / HUB ( Hirschmann - Spider-III), attached handsketch for better understanding.
Two control room location having multiple MP200/1 systems , the distance between two control room is 1000 meters, we have planned to use fibre optic cable ( 50 /125) multimode & media converter ( Moxa, IMC-21-M-SC) for interconnecting two Ethernet switch .
need clarification for the following.
1) DIP switch setting on media converter shall be 100 Mbps Full Duplex ( FDX) or 100 mbps Half Duplex ( HDX) ? considering performance ( Minimum collision). kindly suggest.
2) Multimode cable (50 /125) for the length of 1000 Mtrs, for the 100Mbps half duplex mode, will it work ?? pls confirm.
3) Do we need to change the fiber optic cable type to Single mode considering the required length of 1000 mtrs.
Choice of fiber and SFP must meet or exceed the 1km distance requirement. Surely Moxa have SFP for this distance, likely a Single Mode variant.
Be sure to obtain a signed certificate from the party performing the physical installation of the fiber, attenuation must not be too high. A lot can go wrong when installing and terminating optical equipment. Use a professional vendor/service.
