Integrating System 800XA PMS to Yokogawa UGS without manual account creation
Dear Stefan,
In our plant, Yokogawa UGS is a communication interface to the DCS system for both Vibration Monitoring System(VMS) and ABB 800XA Power Management System (PMS)
UGS works on DCOM communication that requires both interfacing systems (UGS& PMS and UGS & VMS) to have identical usemame and password for the communication establishment. The UGS internal processing requires "UGS_PROCESS" account creation on the interfacing system. "UGS_PROCESS" account is created by executing the Yokogawa tools/patch on the interfacing system via removable media.
However ABB engineers has declined the execution of Yokogawa tools/patch on the System 800XA PMS and only allow the manual account creation on System 800XA PMS. However, manual implementation to establish the communication with the PMS will result in communication breakdown of VMS-DCS, a situation which we do not want to happen in the plant.
Is there any workaround that you would suggest to ensure that I can integrate both VMS & System 800XA PMS to the UGS safely without disrupting both systems? Or any alternatives that you have in mind?
Thank you in advance, Stefan.

I have never been in this situation myself, but I would first try to reverse engineer what the Y tool / patch is doing.
It is true that you should take outmost care before installing anything on a properly running system; not too seldom one vendor's preferred DCOM settings or 3rd party software/version has a conflict with the currently in use by System 800xA.
With proper backups (drive images) taken, you could attempt to install the Y tools and then revert back if something fail.
Another approach could be to use an OPC Tunneler like e.g. Matrikon.

The centum system is a CLIENT to the 800xA system.
This tool will help you diagnose security issues -> https://advosol.com/product/22/opc-se...
Install it on the UGS and verify you can connect as a client to the 800xA system. You may need to adjust DCOM settings on either the 800xA server or Centum Client computers. Manually creating a computer account isn't rocket science, just create the same username and password on both computers. (All these issues can be avoided if everything shares the same Domain Controller)
There should be no need to install Centum software on the ABB system or ABB Software on the Centum system.

Hi Stefan, thanks for your prompt answer. Do you think I could also achieve the same via PLC Connect?
