IEC61850 to Areva relays fails after 800xA upgrade
Hi all
We have recently upgraded an old 800xA system (2010) from version 5.1-0 to 6.0.3.2.
The ABB IEC61850 OPC server is upgraded from version 1.1.2 ALPHA 4, Build 3 to version 6.0.3 (with roll-up 5 and TC15).
From the OPC server (redundant pair), we had communication to some Areva P139 relays.
After the upgrade, we still have connection to all the relays, but the values are not updated continuously, meaning that they are only updated when asked for by the OPC server (refresh, opening of faceplate etc.).
An investigation of the setup shows, that no RCB's are assigned to the OPC server. This was also the case before the upgrade, but how it could work before is a mystery for me. Sadly the guys that did the configuration in 2010 is not here anymore, so I can't get input for how/why it was done like this.
In order to get it to work, I assigned the RCB's to both of the OPC servers, resulting in a loss of communication to all relays. This because of there is only 1 client allowed per RCB.
If the redundant OPC server is disabled, I have connection to some of the relays, and the values from these are updated correctly. Though some of the relays apparently don't allow the OPC server to read it's RCB's.
The last try was to only poll for the signals, and not read the RCB's, but strangely polling is not working at all.
Maybe it's a long shut, but hopefully somebody has experienced this or not a thing or two about upgrade problems or Areva relays, so the following questions can be answered:
- How could the IEC61850 communication on the old system work without having any RCB's assigned to the OPC servers?
- Can the upgraded system communicate with continuously updating signals without reading the RCB's and poll for the signals? If yes, are their specific parameters that needs to be set?
I've attached a .zip file with the .pcmp and .icd files, in case you want to look at those.
In advance thanks a lot for any answers, it is much appreciated!
Best Regards
Matthias

Hello Matthias,
We have faced similar issues while working with 800xA 5.1 RevA systems.
The solution to this problem is that you need to add RCB's and their Clients in the icd files and create a fresh scd file. We use IET600 tool for the purpose.
This scd file you can upload in OPC server. The Areva relays must also be written with the new icd/scd files so that they get updated with the RCB's and their clients. In case you have redundant servers, you need to add two Clients for each RCB's.
And I do not see the .pcmp/.icd files here as mentioned by you.
Revert for further clarifications.

Assign an RCB client with the correct report client identity created at CET and change the indexed parameter to false if RCB is actually non-indexed. If the value is missing in the SCD, then it is considered true.

Can see that I've uploaded the question three times. Every time it said Server unavailable, but apparently it has uploaded the question anyway. Sorry for that!
Therefor please answer the first question (0ldest question of the three). Thanks.

yes i as well get the response "server unavailable" on posting a question.... not very helpful
