800xA 6.0.3.2 restore on new hardwarw
Good morning,
we have a 800xA System with version 6.0.3.2. Our system has only virtual machines with the exception of one engineering client and two operator workstations.
We have to change the virtual hardware. At the moment we are using Windows Server 2012 R2 and with the new system we will use Windows Server 2016.
I installed all virtual machines in the new system. I did not change the computer names.
I have a question for the restore process:
- On the new Aspect Server I will create a system with the same functions as on the old system.
- I will make a backup on the old the system.
(- It is necessary to backup the system configuration files? It should be the same config as in the old system?)
- I will delete the system on the new Aspect Server
- I will restore the backup on the new Aspect Server
My questions:
It is possible to connect the new virtual machines with the "Replace Node" function? It is the same procedure as a replace?
I have three physical machines with Windows 10. It is possible to connect the machines to the new system without a complete reinstall? I will use the same software version.
Many thanks
Best regards,
Florian

Is it possible to use "Replace Node" to swap in a new (supported) OS.
Just be sure to have 6.0.3-2 installed (support for Server 2016 came in 6.0.3-2 while support for Windows 10 LTSB were added in 6.0.3-1)
It is important to remember that "Restore" of a backup does NOT deploy any features in any node. E.g. if SQL Server is required for a node function (Asset Optimization, IM History, etc) the SQL will have to be "prepared" by System Installer as part of a Deploy.

Thank you Stefan.
I have the version 6.0.3.2.
I will describe my plan for one node:
In the new system (on the Aspect Server) I will create a new system with the same functions as in the original system.
I will not add any nodes. After deploy I will delete the system.
Then I will restore my backup on the new Aspect Server.
Then I will use the "Replace Node" function to add my nodes.
But you wrote, that the "Replace Node" function will not deploy any features on any node.
My nodes are only prepared with the system installer and the additional software (e.g. German language pack, S+ Link and Classes and PC Toolkit)
If the "Replace Node" function will not deploy the node, then it will not work.
But in this case, I have to delete all nodes in my system and add new nodes. :-(
Best regards,
Florian

If you have a Redundant Aspect Server then you can perform replace OS using the Replace Node Functionality one by one. Replace Node will deploy all the product installation and its services. But will not create any service groups or service providers as they are already available in the system.
But if you have a single Aspect Server the procedure mentioned above should work.
It is necessary to backup the system configuration files and it should be the same config as in the old system. Then we have to replace the SCC aspects after restore.
Windows Server 2016 is supported from SV6.0.3.1 and Windows 10 LTSB 2015 is supported from SV6.0.3.
