Advant Master - Object is Locked by Another User
We have a customer with MP200 / 1 controllers running under 800xA Version 5.1 which has been operating properly for around 2 years. Process Object Locking has allways been enabled. Recently we have had two occasions where opening any faceplate has left the object locked.... i.e. the Object locking does not release when the faceplate is closed. Re-opening the faceplate shows the object is now locked by another user and No user at all can operate the object. The same customer has several similar systems and this is the only site showing the problem.
To resolve the problem the first time we rebooted both of the connectivity servers. The second time the problem occurred the customer rebooted only one of the RTA boards and the problem immediately cleared.
I am aware that there is a known issue if objects are imported from another system and have the wrong network number configured in the control connection aspect. This does not seem to be the case here. Are there any other known issues and/or solutions for object locking problems in 800xA for Advant Master ?

Hi Rob.
It has been issues with object lock with older firmware versions of controllers i.e MP200/1 and older AC450
An upgrade to latest AC450 version is one way to reduce the problem, it may happened if you have a bad network or shut down the CS server incorrect.
Was the selected flag = 1 in the controller when you had a problem to select th object from a face plate ?
Normally the lock in the controller, (selected flag) is released after 5 minutes in the controller in nobody touch the object
If an operation is performed on the object during the lock period a new 5 minutes lock period will be started.
Then close and re open the face plate
Product bulletin 3BSE042375 describes this problem in combination with 800xA systems or AS500 OS.
There is also a Product ALERT - 3BSE074799 regarding import of objects.
ABB 800xA for Advant Master, all versions up to and including: ABB 800xA for Advant Master 5.1.0-2, included in System 800xA 5.1 Rev C and ABB 800xA for Advant Master S-FP 5.1.1, included in System 800xA 5.1 FP4.
800xA for Advant Master, Objects cannot be controlled, Faceplates indicates "Locked by other" after Upload, when importing objects from other systems

Hi Rob
Just a comment:
In 2012 I saw exactly the same issue (Case reference: ABB20120906-0023) in a System 800xA SV5.0 SP2C with "800xA for Advant Master" & "800xA for Safeguard" (i.e. AC400 Connectivity).
The issue was recognized and the answer was: "R&D has made a correction concerning the handling of network numbers. The lock handling will now only consider the decade part of the network number. This means network 11 , 12 .. 19 will be treated as network 10 internally. This is the normal handling of network numbers for other functions as well."
Now the system is SV5.1 FP4 RevD with ABB 800xA for Advant Master S-FP 5.1.1-1 RU1 TC2 (5.10.5884.23848) and ABB 800xA for Safeguard 5.1.0-1 (5.10.4475.14888) and we haven't the problem any more.
I know that this comment won't help you, it's just that you know that others have seen a similar problem.

Lock should be released automaticly after a timeout. (not sure how long, 10..30 min I think)

Carsten is correct, what is the version used here?
IIRC: the various object handlers in the controller should auto-release forgotten locks after some timeout - what version of MP200/1 is used? Maybe this auto-release came in late, or not at all into MP200? I can dig some more on Monday...

The customer has "ABB 800xA Base 5.1.0-4 RU2" and "ABB 800xA for Advant Master 5.1.0-3 RU1"
The release notes state that there were some improvements to lock handling in this RU. I do not know if those were for Carsten's problem or for some other general stability issue.
