Use ABB PNSM to monitor network equipment
The solutions ABB has are for vendor/model specific and I need to understand if we can tailor something to what the customer has installed.

- System 800xA cycliclally issues "SNMP Get" to poll a device --> an OPC DA property is generated via the ABB.Shadow.OPCServer --> alarm expression or Asset Monitor may raise an alarm. The value can also be trended and used in process graphics.
- A device sends a "SNMP Trap" to System 800xA --> an OPC AE alarm is raised via the IT SNMP Trap Service
I suggest downloading and studying some of the readymade PNSM object types from ABB Library, e.g the ABB NE870 RNRP Router; it uses both methods above.
There isn't much information available about how to configure a custom PNSM application; the handling of MIB files is complex (manual compilation into MS Windows is required). I have attached a PDF describing how to go from MIB to OPC.
The configuration of receiving a trap is so far uncharted territory for me, but have a look a the IT Device Traps aspect; it maps the trap OID into OPC AE alarm information. Maybe you can reverse engineer it a bit and find a way forward to be able to receive a custom trap and have an alarm raised for it?
You could also consider using third-party tools like Paessler PRTG, vendor specific from HPE (OneView)/Dell if you have a large installation of servers/SAN etc.
In my opinion there are a couple of advantages to use Matrikon or Kepware SNMP OPC (w PLC Connect) instead of PNSM for integrating into 800xA.
